WHAT IS THE HUNGER GAP WALKATHON?

The Hunger Gap Walkathon is a virtual charity walkathon, as well as an online fundraising event, where you can achieve your walking goals anytime, anywhere, individually or with a team, while tracking and sharing the progress digitally. With The Hunger Gap Walkathon, you can post updates and engage with your audiences on social media to create awareness and garner donations, helping The Food Bank Singapore raise funds to support our mission of improving food security.

The Hunger Gap Walkathon shines a light on a reality often overlooked. Even in a nation of abundance, many still struggle to access nutritious meals: a quiet gap felt in households across Singapore.

This is the gap we’re walking to bridge.
Every step you take represents more than distance.

  • It’s a step toward ensuring no one goes without the comfort of a nourishing meal.
  • A step that restores dignity to households doing their best through difficult times.
  • A step that helps The Food Bank Singapore reach more seniors, families, and students with reliable food support.

By joining The Hunger Gap Walkathon, you’re not just clocking steps, you’re helping to bridge the hunger gap: one stride, one meal, one household at a time.

Who are you supporting when you join
The Hunger Gap Walkathon

Seniors & Lower-Income households

Seniors and lower-income households often face financial strain as the cost of living rises. Regular pantry staples help ease this burden, allowing families to redirect limited resources to other essential needs. One partner running monthly pop-up supermarkets reported an 18% reduction in financial stress among beneficiaries receiving regular grocery support.

Through our partners, food support also reaches households referred by social service offices, community centres, and Members of Parliament.

School-going children from lower-income households

Children from lower-income households may skip breakfast or recess due to limited pocket money, and often lack basic stationery.

According to Hunger Report II, food-insecure households frequently face unmet non-food needs — including school supplies.

The Back-to-School Support Programme provides breakfast/recess-friendly snacks and drinks, together with a basic stationery kit to support students in school.

Tertiary Students from Lower-Income households

Tertiary students from lower-income households may miss out on everyday peer activities, such as dining out, due to financial constraints.

These informal gatherings help build friendships, networks, and a sense of belonging during the formative tertiary years.

Our upcoming programme (Q3 2026) will provide prepaid meal credits, redeemable via mobile devices at selected F&B partners — supporting nourishment, dignity, and opportunities for social connection.

The Communities you will support

When you join The Hunger Gap Walkathon, you’re not just clocking steps, you’re walking alongside the communities who need us the most.

Seniors & Lower-Income Households

Your support brings grocery bundles filled with essential food items to seniors and vulnerable households.

You help lighten their load and remind them they’re never alone.

School-going children From lower-income households

You help students start school with confidence through Back-to-School Kits — complete with recess/breakfast appropriate food/drink/snack with stationery set housed in a canvas lunch bag.

A small kit, a big boost to their everyday learning.

Tertiary Students from Lower-Income Households

Tertiary students can redeem prepaid meals from selected F&B partners of The Food Bank Singapore (programme to be launched in Q2-3 2026).

Your contribution keeps them nourished and enable out-of-home social interactions with their peers over meals.

The Hunger Gap Walkathon is powered by The Food Bank Singapore — the charity behind the programmes your steps will support.

About The Food Bank Singapore

Established in 2012, The Food Bank Singapore is the nation’s only accredited member of The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), an organisation that supports food banks in more than 50 countries. As an IPC-registered charity (non-government funded), we collect surplus food from manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and consumers, and channel it to vulnerable communities through our network of beneficiary partners. We also procure food as needed to meet the food support requirements of our beneficiary partners/beneficiaries. Beyond providing vital food support to improve food security, we champion food sustainability through advocacy, reducing food waste, and driving education programmes that inspire action to reduce food waste and build a more sustainable future.

In 2025, The Food Bank Singapore distributed 700,000kg of food to its network of beneficiary partners. Most recently, the charity launched its Back-to-School Support Programme that provides food and stationery support kits to school-going children from lower-income households.
